Writing (HICO or LCO head) : the writing heads application force may be adjusted. The writing current can be programmed from the console. Writing signals are monitored by an optical unit driven by the band to be inspected.
Reading: the heads are applied with adjustable force to the tracks to be inspected.
The magnetic heads may be simultaneously raised by one single lever.
The upper unit (magnetic heads and electronic offset unit) can be tilted and the operator can access the magnetic heads for checking, cleaning and changing.
On account of the very design of the upper unit the magnetic heads are easily changed without tools.
The upper unit can be moved sideways (by means of a wheel and fine pitch screw); this arrangement is for lining up the head train with the magnetic tracks.
The magnetic head back pressure cylinders are also lined up this way.
This is carried out by inked thumbwheels, controlled by pull-type electromagnets.
When the upper unit opens the thumbwheels can be directly accessed.
